About Men’s Wellness and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Day program

This 8 weeks program, utilising principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Healthy Lifestyle, is designed to meet the needs of adult males throughout the lifespan. Participants will work with a Psychologist and Exercise Physiologist to learn coping strategies to manage difficult emotions (e.g., depression, anxiety, anger, stress), and make positive lifestyle changes via a tailored exercise and hydrotherapy program.

What you will experience

Throughout this program, you will participate in group sessions of between 6-8 participants (4 sessions with a Psychologist and Exercise Physiologist each respectively). Participants will be supported to share lived experiences, and each session will focus on exploring a practical skill that you will have time to practice before the next session, as well as shared with the group what you have learnt for feedback and input.

Objective 1

Shifting Perceptions - Learn to challenge your unhelpful thoughts and beliefs to get you through difficult situations.

Objective 2

Understanding and Managing Emotions- Learn how to respond to stressful emotions more effectively.

Objective 3

Shifting Unhelpful Behaviours - Learn to identify and reduce maladaptive behaviours (e.g., rumination, avoidance, perfectionism, self-defeating actions), and utilise structured problem solving and other practical strategies to manage stressful situations or issues.

Objective 4

Incorporating Healthy Lifestyle Strategies - Explore different lifestyle topics (e.g., diet, sleep, relaxation, exercise) and how you can integrate them into your daily life more effectively.

Objective 5

Creating an Individualised Exercise Program- Develop a tailored plan for exercise and hydrotherapy specifically for you.

How to get started

FOR NEW PATIENTS to access this treatment, we will need a valid referral from your general practitioner to one of our psychiatrists at South Eastern Private Hospital who will complete a preadmission assessment with you to ensure that the treatment is suitable for you. Referrals can be sent via our online referral on our website - www.southeasternprivate.com.au (i.e., under the referral section). FOR EXISTING MENTAL HEALTH PATIENTS to access this treatment, simply discuss with your treating psychiatrist at South Eastern Private Hospital who will then assess your suitability and if appropriate, will refer you to our day programs. Who will find this program helpful?

Adult males who are experiencing adjustment difficulties, anxiety or depression that are looking to improve daily functioning and social engagement.

How much dose it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying or funding via TAC/DVA are also an option. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with South Eastern Private Hospital by calling 03 9549 0111.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

This treatment is designed to be completed within 8 weeks (4 sessions with a Psychologist and 4 sessions with an Exercise Physiologist). Participants attend sessions every Tuesday from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Afternoon tea is provided. The treatment can be started any week of the year, and is for admitted patients only. Please note that date, time and duration can be subjected to change.
