About Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Day program

This 8 weeks program is for anyone looking to improve their physical and mental health by making positive changes to their lifestyle. Each participant will be prescribed an individually tailored program by an Exercise Physiologist that will consist of exercises, hydrotherapy and healthy lifestyle topics. There will be exercise and hydrotherapy sessions each week, aiming to improve overall wellbeing through caring for your physical health.

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You are struggling with a low mood or overpowering anxiety.
  • There are a few things on your plate at the moment and you’re not sure how you can keep juggling it all
  • You are looking to increase your physical activities to reduce your stress levels.
  • You are struggling with your physical health or overall well-being, and want to learn new skills to change the way you feel
  • You are feeling little motivation and can do with extra support.

What you will experience

Each group sessions consists of between 6-8 participants. The sessions are led by Exercise Physiologists and includes 1 hour of exercise in the gym, hydrotherapy in the pool, and education respectively. You will be supported to share lived experiences, and each session will focus on exploring a practical skill that you will have time to practice before the next session, as well as share with the group what you have learnt for feedback and input.

Treatment objectives

Objective 1

Incorporating Healthy Lifestyle Strategies - Explore different lifestyle topics (e.g., diet, sleep, relaxation, exercise) and how you can integrate them into your daily life more effectively.

Objective 2

Improving Physical Health- Explore and implement physical exercises (in gym and hydro-pool) and lifestyle changes.

Objective 3

Improving Mental Health- Developing ways to maintain mental health and stress via different physical activities and exercises.

How to get started

This treatment is designed to be completed within 8 weeks and an Exercise Physiologist will facilitate each session. Participants attend sessions every Wednesday from 10.00am to 1.00pm. The treatment can be started any week of the year, and is for admitted patients only. Please note that date, time and duration can be subjected to change.

How do I access this program or find out more?

FOR NEW PATIENTS to access this treatment, we will need a valid referral from your general practitioner to one of our psychiatrists at South Eastern Private Hospital who will complete a preadmission assessment with you to ensure that the treatment is suitable for you. Referrals can be sent via our online referral on our website - www.southeasternprivate.com.au (i.e., under the referral section). FOR EXISTING MENTAL HEALTH PATIENTS to access this treatment, simply discuss with your treating psychiatrist at South Eastern Private Hospital who will then assess your suitability and if appropriate, will refer you to our day programs. How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying or funding via TAC/DVA are also an option. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with South Eastern Private Hospital by calling 03 9549 0111.
