Aurora Extras is an outpatient rehabilitation service available Australia wide through Aurora Healthcare facilities.

Our Aurora Extras services help overcome those burdens by providing tailored programs that provide the right care, in the right setting and at the right cost. Aurora Extras provide a range of critical allied health and health-related services across a broad range of conditions, in the one rehabilitation-accredited location.

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • We help clients that: Require support for surgical preparation.
  • Need to improve their wellbeing to enhance a safe return to work, transition back into the community. or back to sport and recreation after an illness or injury.

Program content

Our programs are catered to each individual and offer a range of exercises and therapies including circuit training, balance and mobility training, strength and endurance training, and education.

Aurora Extras provide a range of critical allied health and health-related services across a broad range of conditions, in the one rehabilitation approved and accredited location. We help clients that:

  • Require support for surgical preparation;
  • Need to improve their wellbeing to enhance a safe return to work, transition back into the community or back to sport and recreation after an illness or injury: OR
  • Simply, have individual wellness goals that they wish to achieve.

Aurora Extras are designed for the patients that:

  • Have completed their hospital inpatient or day patient programs but wish to continue with the therapy,
  • Have limited private health insurance cover
  • Have no private health insurance (fees for service packages - and AfterPay available),
  • Are registered NDIS, Work Cover or Third Party clients.

What you will experience

Our programs are catered to each individual and offer a range of exercises and therapies. Aurora Extras provide a range of critical allied health and health-related services across a broad range of conditions, in the one rehabilitation-accredited location.

Treatment objectives

Objective

Cardiac rehabilitation is provided for any patient with a surgical or non-surgical cardiac condition. The program aims to educate the cardiac patient about safe exercise, diet, medications they may be taking and any mood/anxiety/depression they may be experiencing.

Pulmonary rehabilitation is provided for all patients with lung conditions including COPD and Emphysema. The program uses exercise and education to maximise quality of life for patients suffering from pulmonary conditions, in a safe, professional and supportive environment.

Falls prevention is a group-based program for any patient who is experiencing falls issues or has a falls risk, either in the community or at home. It provides the patient with Best Practice education, exercise and evaluation to help decrease the risk of falls. The program is structured to make the patient feel safe and to build confidence in exercise and general everyday living.

Preventing functional decline and improving physical capacity following significant medical illness (or general surgery) will ensure you retain the ability to manage safely in your own residence, and reduce the risk of further admission into hospital.

Objective

Following joint replacement, surgery after fracture, or severe cases of osteoarthritis it is normal to experience a decline in function and self confidence. Our orthopaedic program is designed not only to prevent this decline, but improve your capacity beyond your previous limitations.

How to get started

Ask your General Practitioner or Specialist to refer you to our program. Eligibility and funding requests are arranged prior to admission. Private health fund, DVA, WorkCover and TAC referrals are accepted. If you have an excess or co-payment with your health insurance, you will be required to pay this at the time of admission. Who will find this program helpful?

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

Brunswick Private Hospital is now offering the Aurora Extras Programs below. From April 2023, our programs will each run twice per week.

How much dose it cost?

Referrals: A referral is not required for a consultation with an allied health professional such as a physiotherapist, although it is often helpful for clients to bring as much information about their health history that relates to their reason for seeing an allied health therapist. When being funded by Workers Compensation Claims, CTP (Third Party) Road Accident Claims, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Claims clients will need to obtain a referral from their GP prior to attending Aurora Extras services.
