Professional background
Dr Mina Ghaly is a movement disorders and general Neurologist. He completed his Neurology specialty training at Melbourne Tertiary Hospitals.
He undertook extensive training in the field of movement disorders at St Vincent's hospital. He was the first to receive a dedicated deep brain stimulation - DBS fellowship at the Royal Melbourne hospital and work with expert DBS neurologists in Melbourne and overseas. Dr Ghaly underwent further training in the surgical treatment of movement disorders – Neuromodulation. He is one of a few neurologists globally who uses high-intensity focused ultrasound - MRgFUS to treat movement disorders.
He has expertise in managing movement disorders such as tremors, tics, dystonia, and Parkinson's Disease. He has special interests in Parkinson's disease pathology, and treatment, particularly Device Assisted Therapy (DAT), such as Duodopa, Apomorphine, Deep Brain Stimulation - DBS and MRI-guided focused ultrasound - MRgFUS. He uses Botulinum toxin to treat patients with dystonia, spasticity and chronic migraine.
Dr Ghaly also consults in various neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, headache disorders, peripheral nerves and muscle diseases, Multiple Sclerosis and vertigo.
Dr Ghaly is active in Parkinson's research, patient advocacy and public education.
He currently holds a position as a movement disorders specialist at St Vincent's Hospital. He has private appointments at major Melbourne private hospitals - Epworth, St Vincent's private, Melbourne private, Southeastern private hospital and Mulgrave private
