Professional background
Dr Mina Ghaly is a distinguished neurologist with specialised expertise in movement disorders and general neurology. He completed his medical training at Melbourne Tertiary Hospitals and further honed his skills in movement disorders at St Vincent's Hospital. Dr Ghaly was the inaugural recipient of a deep brain stimulation (DBS) fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he collaborated with leading experts in DBS from national and international institutions. In addition to his proficiency in DBS, Dr Ghaly possesses advanced training in the surgical management of movement disorders, concentrating on neuromodulation techniques. He is one of the few neurologists globally who employs high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) as a therapeutic modality. Dr. Ghaly's clinical expertise includes managing conditions such as tremors, tics, dystonia, and Parkinson's disease. He is particularly interested in Device-Assisted Therapy (DAT), which encompasses Duodopa, Apomorphine, DBS, and MRgFUS. Furthermore, he uses botulinum toxin to treat dystonia and spasticity.
